Was Christian Riisager First with a Commercial Grid-Connected Wind Turbine?

By

External Source

The question is not who first generated electricity with wind, nor who first produced wind turbines in series. Companies such as Jacobs and Hütter had already done so, mainly for off-grid applications. The more interesting question is: Who built the first commercially series-produced wind turbine specifically designed for direct parallel operation with a public electricity grid?

Carbon Brief: Wind and solar are ‘fastest-growing electricity sources in history’

By

External Source

Wind and solar are growing faster than any other sources of electricity in history, according to new analysis from thinktank Ember. It says they are now growing fast enough to exceed rising demand, meaning there will be a peak in fossil fuel electricity generation – and emissions – from this year. As a result, Ember says in its latest annual review of global electricity data that a “new era of falling fossil fuel generation is imminent”. Renewables met a record 30% of global electricity demand in 2023 and emissions from the sector would already have peaked if not for a record fall in hydropower, the analysis says.

Ember: It took 8 years for solar to go from 100 TWh to 1,000 TWh of power–and then just 3 years to pass 2,000 TWh

Solar power is transforming the world — and at record speed. Solar electricity generation needed just eight years to grow from 100 TWh to 1,000 TWh. Then it took only three more years to double that — reaching 2,000 TWh in 2024. In each of those last three years, solar was the largest source of new electricity globally. No other electricity source has scaled this quickly.

Germany sets out plan to phase out fossil fuels by 2045

By

External Source

Germany has presented a road map to phase out fossil fuels by 2045. German Environment Minister Carsten Schneider told the UN General Assembly on Wednesday that the plan "combines independence, affordability and climate protection." Europe's largest economy is now the third country to have provided a solid plan for the phaseout — to which nearly 200 countries committed at the 2023 COP28 climate conference in Dubai — following France and the Netherlands.

Life-cycle greenhouse gas emissions from passenger cars in the European Union: A 2025 update and key factors to consider

By

External Source

The life-cycle emissions of battery electric vehicles in the European Union are estimated to be 73% lower than those of gasoline internal combustion vehicles. As presented in Figure 1, BEVs operating on the projected 2025–2044 average EU electricity mix had estimated life-cycle GHG emissions of 63 g CO2e/km. This is 73% lower than the emissions of gasoline ICEVs running on the average blend of fossil gasoline and ethanol, estimated at 235 g CO2e/km. These savings go beyond just tailpipe CO2 emissions: Emissions from fuel production are higher than those from electricity production with the EU average mix. Although BEVs were estimated to have about 40% higher production emissions than ICEVs due to emissions from production of the battery, these additional emissions are more than offset after about 17,000 km of use in the first one or two years.

Plug-in EV sales, month by month

By

188 months of US plug-in vehicle sales, December 2010 to July 2026, taken from the Department of Energy laboratory that publishes them. The share of the new-car market peaked at 12.94% in September 2025 — the month the federal tax credit closed — and has fallen in every month since, measured against the same month a year earlier.

OWNED BY WALES: The plan for a public energy company that keeps wind farm profits here

By

External Source

The promise from ministers is cheaper, cleaner power with the money reinvested at home. The reality check comes with it: the company would not take over your gas and electricity supply, would not set the price you pay, and any saving on bills is a long-term hope rather than help for this winter. What is on the table is one national public energy company, bringing together the energy organisations Wales already has, and everyone in Wales is being asked how it should work before the plans are settled.

EVs and the Grid: Supporting Resilience, or Driving Defection?

By

External Source

EVs are giant batteries on wheels. They could smooth out the daily and seasonal variations of energy flows on the electric grid, making the grid more reliable and everyone’s electricity cheaper. But a self-serving alliance of disparate interests is working hard to discourage EV adoption. One front of their many attacks involves apocalyptic tales of grid collapse.

California Legislature passes balcony solar bill

By

External Source

Californians could soon put solar panel kits on balconies and in backyards to lower their electric bills — without utility approval. On Wednesday, state lawmakers passed the Plug and Play Solar Act (Senate Bill 868) to legalize balcony solar, a form of DIY clean energy that’s taken off in Germany. The bill, which garnered bipartisan support, now heads to the desk of Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom. His office declined to say if he’ll sign or veto it within the 30-day deadline; if he does neither, it would still become law and take effect Jan. 1, 2027. “Imagine being able to reduce your annual electric bill by $400, which is what is estimated here, simply by plugging in one of these devices and leaving it in the sun,” state Sen. Scott Wiener (D), who wrote the bill, said at a Monday press conference on the legislation. “This is a level of convenience in terms of installation and energy savings that we have not seen before.”

CA governor candidate Xavier Becerra proposes free ‘power hour’ electricity plan

By

External Source

Democratic gubernatorial candidate Xavier Becerra is proposing free electricity for millions of California households during part of the day, arguing the plan could help lower-income residents save money while encouraging energy use when solar power is most abundant. Becerra unveiled the proposal Tuesday at POLITICO's Sacramento Summit, saying his plan would offer free electricity during a designated midday window. The Democrat said he would work with the regulators, energy providers and other stakeholders to determine how this would be paid, but didn't outline a funding plan.

2027 Chevy Bolt Edmunds Review

By

The resurrected 2027 Chevrolet Bolt's new electric motor and revised battery pack help to slightly increase EPA-estimated range — 262 miles compared to the 2023 Bolt EUV's 247 miles. We went even farther than that in our independent Edmunds EV Range Test, going 290 miles on a full charge.
