Sweden’s JBA Vind Now Open Source

By Paul Gipe

Sven Ruin, an engineering consultant with the family firm TEROC, has notified me that the former Swedish wind turbine manufacturer JBA Vind has put the design for their 15 kW and 22 kW models in the public domain.

The design for the three-blade, upwind turbines are now open source under the Creative Commons Attribution-Sharealike International license (CC BY-SA 4.0).

JBA Vind’s farm size wind turbines—essentially the Swedish version of classic Danish designs–were produced until 2011. However, many of the turbines are still in operation across Sweden and the operators were in need of the turbines’ plans to create a supply of spare parts. Manufacturing drawings and images can be downloaded from the company’s web site.

For its part, TEROC has published the controller software for JBA Vind’s two models as open source software as well.
