We’ve made great strides in moving the electricity sector toward renewable energy. However, transportation remains a major source of air pollution and global warming gases. If we are to make a transition to renewable energy, we will need to electrify as much of the economy as we can, including transportation. Electrified rail is one means, electric vehicles (EVs) are another. The focus here is mostly on our experience driving EVs. We’ve been driving electric since the fall of 2014.

GM announces Chevy Bolt is over

The news was expected as the Chevy Equinox and its ~$30,000 starting price is expected in the Fall, largely taking the place of the small footprint CUV segment. The Equinox and Blazer SS, due this summer, are based on GM’s Ultium platform and this will phase out the Bolt’s older battery/motor drivetrain system.

VW subsidiary PowerCo is building a 90 GWh battery factory in Canada

Volkswagen has unveiled further details about its battery factory in St Thomas, Canada. It will be PowerCo’s largest cell factory to date, create 3,000 jobs, and produce up to 90 GWh of battery cells per year.
