It’s been one month since our 2027 Bolt was hand delivered. I am still working through the new driver’s interface and changes to the controls, but we’re using it. I’ve now driven more than 1,000 miles so I can report on actual and reported range, and the traction battery’s capacity.

As I noted before (see 2027 Chevy Bolt Owner Initial Impressions), the car is performing better than advertised. The battery has nearly 70 kWh of capacity, not 65 kWh. Over six level 2 charge cycles, the total range (miles driven plus range remaining) has varied from ~270 miles to ~300 miles, that’s more than the 262 miles of EPA range. This has included a mix of highway and local driving.
Actual efficiency has ranged from 3.7 mi/kWh to 4.4 mi/kWh with an average of ~4 mi/kWh. Actual efficiency differs slightly from that reported by the car’s trip odometer. The owner’s manual makes reference to this, but doesn’t explain why that occurs.
The car’s estimate (GOM) of range has hardly varied from 288 miles.
