VIN Decoder for US EV Tax Credits 2023

By Paul Gipe

The Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) that offers substantial tax subsidies for buying a new and used EV requires that the vehicle be assembled in North America (USA, Canada, and Mexico).

To determine if the car you want is assembled in North America, get the VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) from the Monroney sticker or the number plate inside the windshield and plug it into the VIN Decoder. The Alternative Fuels Data Center maintains a data base for Electric Vehicles with Final Assembly in North America.
