Small-scale wind turbines in cities and suburbs: Current practice

By Stephen Tullis

In this presentation, Stephen Tullis of McMaster University calls attempts to use Vertical-Axis Wind Turbines in urban environments “promising,” but notes they are too new to conclude much. Tullis controversially concludes that “small VAWTs are able to handle dirty air” in urban environments. It’s conclusions such as this that added fuel to the fire of small VAWT promoters such as Cleanfield.
