Photos of Sailwing Wind Turbines

The sailwing wind turbine was developed by Thomas E. Sweeney of Princeton University’s Advanced Flight Projects Laboratory in the 1970s. There have been repeated attempts to commercialize this elegant concept with little success. Grumman developed two versions, a 12-foot diameter model for use in parking lots, and a 25-foot diameter version. The concept is mentioned in Volta Torrey’s Wind-Catchers on page 155.
