U-Haul Panel Truck

U-Haul moving rental equipment company has emblazoned the sides of their panel trucks with emblematic scenes from across the country. For example, Devil’s Tower, Wyoming or the Big Trees of Sequoia National Park or the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco.

After yoga one day I noticed that the U-Haul truck parked next to me had this image of Mount Washington in New Hampshire. The theme was the “highest wind speed ever recorded” (231 mph). To represent the wind the scene depicted two anemometers. I was pointing out the old-style cup anemometer with the brass cups when Nancy, my wife, said I should put that up here as an example of a cultural icon of wind.
