Michigan’s Public Service Commission (PSC) is weighing a pilot feed-in tariff proposed by Wisconsin Electric Power Company in an ongoing rate case.
PSC staff expects a decision on the entire rate case soon.
Wisconsin Electric serves a portion of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula that straddles Lake Superior to the north and Lake Michigan to the south. The utility also serves Wisconsin where it is known as WE Energies.
WE Energies has operated a modest feed-in tariff for several years.
Wisconsin Electric’s proposed experimental solar PV tariff is patterned directly after WE Energies solar PV tariff.
The proposed pilot is extremely modest even by North American standards. Projects are limited to no more than 15 kW and no less than 1.5 kW. The program cap is only 75 kW. The proposed tariff is $0.225/kWh and the contract term is only 10 years.
However, unlike the high metering charges in Ontario and some US states, Wisconsin Electric’s metering charge is modest, amounting to only about $11 per year. Checks will be issued whenever revenues exceed $100. There are no separate facilities charges.
