Is it Time to Drive 55 & Conserve Gasoline Again to Deal with this “Fuck Up” Asks Economist Paul Krugman

By Paul Gipe

Nobel winning American economist Paul Krugman asked today on his podcast if it was time again to call for a 55 mph speed limit to conserve gasoline. As an economist, he said, it made sense to call for conservation to reduce demand for oil. A national conservation program would also share the burden among all Americans for the closure of the Straits of Hormuz. He then rhetorically asked if this was possible today as it was in the 1970s during Jimmy Carter’s presidency. His answer, unsurprisingly was, “not a chance” with this administration.

Listen to Krugman for yourself: Is it Time to Drive 55 Again? There’s a good case for conservation. Also, not a chance.
