While Wall Street Banksters remain at large their crimes continue to wreak havoc across the continent.
Today our paper was late. It arrived as we came in from our walk. The front page blared: Green Frog Closing–End of an Era.
Green Frog is our neighborhood, locally-owned grocery store where we shop. It is within walking distance. They’ve been in trouble since 2010 when they completed an expensive renovation during the height of the financial collapse. They never recovered. First closing their big more suburban location, then retrenching at their original location, and now this.
We know the staff by name. We now the owner and the owner’s sons who work there. I bought my pot roast there for Christmas.
It’s what made our neighborhood livable. Now it’s just more anonymity and a sheep-like trudge to the chains in the suburbs.
Food is life. When food is taken away, a part of life is taken away.
We are devastated. It’s as though someone we know has died.
