Cascade Community Wind Company?

By Paul Gipe

As part of my continuing project to document early wind projects, I am seeking information on the Cascade Community Wind Company.

NREL’s Owen Roberts sent me two photos of a reconditioned Vestas V17 near Ellensburg, Washington. Roberts provided the coordinates: 47°06’03.7″N 120°44’59.3″W. The lone and lonely turbine stands across Thorp Prairie Road from the abandoned FloWind 100 kW prototype. (See Prototype 100 kW FloWind Darrieus Turbine Still Standing Idle in Washington State.)

The web site for the company was active from 2010 to 2014, but there’s no record of it now. Nor does Terry Meyer or anyone else answer to emails at that domain address.

I met Meyer at Mick Sagrillo’s 2017 Small Wind Conference. At the time he mentioned he was trying to develop a cooperative with two rebuilt V17s and was encountering one challenge after another. Washington state is not Denmark and founding a wind cooperative there or anywhere in the USA would be daunting.

The last address for the company was in Bellingham, Washington.

If anyone has more information on Meyer or on his abandoned wind turbine, please let me know.
