British Wind Bids 2026

By Paul Gipe

Uptime Tech News (uptimetechnews@substack.com) recently reported bids for both onshore and offshore wind in Great Britain.

“In what is expected to be a successful tactic to keep projects on track and “focus on competitive price outcomes,” the UK government announced that maximum strike prices in AR8 will be the same as in AR7. Those prices were (in 2024 dollars), and will remain, £113/MwH for fixed-bottom offshore wind, £271 for floating offshore wind, £92 for onshore wind, and £75 for solar.”

In today’s exchange rate, fixed-bottom offshore is $0.15/kWh, for floating offshore is $0.36/kWh, onshore wind is $0.122/kWh and for solar $0.0997/kWh or effectively $0.10/kWh. From this we can tell that onshore wind and solar as well as offshore fixed-bottom wind are mature technologies. Floating offshore remains experimental.
