We think this is a big mistake, especially given all the recent excitement around the Volvo EX30, a vehicle quite close to the Bolt EV’s footprint and layout. Given the interest we’re seeing in that small, well-priced hatchback/SUV, which despite being called an SUV is still among the smaller EVs currently being introduced, one would think that GM might see that a “Hot Hatch meets MicroSUV” format is popular. Surely that’s why they were bringing back the Bolt in the first place?
GM Ultium UAW battery workers win 25% pay increase

Today’s agreement would raise starting pay by $3-4 an hour, representing about a 25% increase. Workers would also get back pay, in the amount of thousands of dollars each.
UAW describes this as a “first step” toward improving pay and working conditions for Ultium workers, and vows to keep pushing for more. This agreement is described as some immediate relief while negotiations continue over working conditions.
2023 Chevy Bolt EV and EUV get $6,000 price cut, start at $25,600

The Chevy Bolt lineup is getting a massive price cut for 2023, dropping from $31,500 to $25,600 (before the $995 destination fee). This means the Chevy Bolt will have a lower MSRP than the base model Nissan Leaf, though the Leaf still qualifies for the US federal EV incentive, whereas the Bolt does not.
New York State 2035 gas car ban passes through legislature, onto Cuomo

This bill makes New York State the second US state to pass a gas car ban legislatively, behind Washington State, which set a 2030 target. California and Massachusetts have also set 2035 targets for the end of gas car sales, though those states made their commitments through executive action by their respective governors, Gavin Newsom (D) and Charlie Baker (R).

Washington state’s House Transportation Committee has voted 17-12 to advance a bill requiring all light-duty vehicles of model year 2030 and later registered in the state to be electric. The bill now moves on to the House Rules committee to be considered for a potential floor vote.

Murray Energy’s bankruptcy has also been a drag on the government’s Black Lung Disability Trust Fund. As of last November, Murray Energy had only contributed $1.1 million of the $155 million it owed to the fund.
