We’ve driven the new Bolt nearly 6,000 miles in almost four months. Traction battery capacity has held steady at ~70 kWh.
However since returning from a trip to Oregon on the 2 May, the estimated range has dropped to GM’s EPA range of 262 miles on a full charge. Prior to that date, the estimated range was 280-290 miles.
I have no explanation for the change in range. The date doesn’t appear to match those of the over the air software updates.
Before the 2 May, the range estimate assumed an efficiency of 4.1 mi/kWh. After that date the range estimate assumes an efficiency of 3.76 mi/kWh.
GM’s EPA rating of efficiency for the 2027 Bolt is 28 kWh/100 mi or 3.6 mi/kWh. This is equivalent to the first generation Bolt and slightly better than the Bolt EUV at 29 kWh/100 mi or 3.4 mi/kWh.
